Transfer to the cable car at Nankai Koya Line "Gokurakubashi Station" for about 5 minutes to "Koyasan Station". Then take the Nankai Rinkan Bus to "Honzan-mae" bus stop and it's right there. From Namba Station in Osaka, allow about 2 hours including express train, cable car and bus transfers.

Kongoji Temple offers "Ajikan" (esoteric meditation experience). Participation fees are paid at the information desk. However, the program may be suspended or the time may change depending on Kongoji Temple's events. For reservations, please check the experience page on the official website.

Visiting hours are 8:30–17:00, and admission closes at 16:30. If you arrive close to closing time, you may not have enough time to view the interior properly, so please allow extra time.

Admission is free for preschool children, and kids can explore the spacious grounds and stone garden. The whole of Kōya-san has a nature-rich environment and is suitable for all-day sightseeing. However, there are stone steps and gravel paths, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.

Photography is generally permitted in outdoor areas of the grounds (stone garden, exterior, etc.), but there are restrictions in some areas such as inside the main hall. Please follow the photography rules according to staff guidance and posted notices.

Middle school students and older ¥1,000, primary school students ¥300, preschool children free. Group discounts available (10% off for 20 or more, 20% off for 50 or more, 30% off for 100 or more). A combined ticket for the Kondō, Konpon Daito, and Tokugawa family mausoleum is also available.

It was registered in July 2004 (Heisei 16) as a component of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range". Its history as a training monastery founded by Kūkai, the patriarch of Shingon Buddhism, alongside Toji in Kyoto, was recognised.

The interior of the main hall (Dai Shudensho), Japan's largest stone garden "Banryū-tei" (60m east-west × 70m north-south), and numerous sliding door paintings by renowned artists are highlights. The new annex also offers tea and sweets. The "Yanagi no Ma" room where Toyotomi Hideji committed suicide is historically famous.

Yes. In addition to Kongōbuji, there are many viewing spots scattered throughout Kōya-san such as Danjō Garan, Konpon Daito Pagoda, and Okunouin. If you purchase a joint ticket for multiple buildings (Kongōbuji, Kondo Hall, Konpon Daito Pagoda, Tokugawa Family Mausoleum, and Jukai Hall), you can visit multiple sites at a discount.

Since Kongōbuji's main hall focuses on indoor viewing, you can enjoy it fully even in rain. However, if you plan to explore Kōya-san more broadly, please bring rain gear. The mystical atmosphere of Kōya-san enveloped in mist is itself a special experience.

Along the approach to Kōya-san's town center, there are many shops selling specialty products like sesame tofu and products made with Kōya-san spring water. At the Shin-Betsu Hall within Kongōbuji, you can enjoy tea and sweets service. Nearby shukubo (temple lodgings) and restaurants also serve shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine).

Kongōbuji front parking lot (free, 39 cars) and second parking lot (about 3 minutes on foot, 72 cars) are available. During busy seasons the lots may be full, so use of public transport is also recommended.

Transfer to the cable car at Gokurakubashi Station on the Nankai Kōya Line and get off at Kōya-san Station. The bus stop "Honzan-mae" is right nearby. From Osaka/Namba, it takes about 2 hours by limited express train plus cable car.
