This is a wooden high-rise structure built in the mid-Taisho period and is designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. It is a prestigious historical building constructed with timber that is now difficult to obtain and using techniques that cannot be replicated.

What type of hot spring water is it?
It is a gentle alkaline simple hot spring with water sourced directly from the spring. A specialist called a "yūban" (hot spring manager) adjusts the water temperature daily to ensure a comfortable bathing experience.
How long has this hot spring been operating?
This is a historic hot spring that opened as a therapeutic spa in Hakone Tōnōsawa in the 19th year of Keichō (1614). Our origins date back approximately 400 years.

What is the dining like?
We offer seasonal kaiseki-style cuisine featuring mountain produce from Hakone and seafood from Sagami Bay and Odawara. You can enjoy these colorful, seasonally-inspired dishes in our Taishō-period architecture dining hall.
Where is dinner served? Is it in your room?
Meals have traditionally been served in your room, but as of February 15, 2026 we will be moving to serving meals at our "Dining Hall." We apologize for any inconvenience from moving within the building and appreciate your understanding.
