What are the check-in and check-out times?
Standard check-in is 15:00 and check-out is 11:00. There are also 21-hour stay plans. Times may differ depending on the plan, so please check when booking.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the inn except the designated smoking area. Please use it if you wish to smoke.

Is the inn suitable for children or lively groups?
We have no children's facilities such as a games corner, and the inn is built around the idea of a quiet trip for adults. Table tennis and the private club room are available, but the inn may not suit guests with young children.

What are the rooms with an open-air bath like?
There are 13 types of room with an open-air bath, each with its own character. Every room and bath looks out on the seasonal scenery of the gorge. Japanese and Japanese-Western types are available.

It is a small inn with 22 rooms. Despite its size it has a bar lounge, a private club room and a table tennis corner, for an unhurried stay aimed at adults.

Are there riverside open-air baths and a large communal bath?
There are open-air baths beside the mountain stream and a large communal bath. On the opposite bank are the public mixed open-air baths Iwa-no-Yu and Fudo-no-Yu, so you can enjoy the hot springs along with the scenery of the gorge.
What are the qualities of the hot spring?
It is a sodium chloride and sulphate spring from a source on the right bank of the Fukuwatari district (source temperature 59.0 degrees Celsius, pH 6.2). As the name Fukuwatari Onsen suggests, the water is said to bring good fortune to those who bathe in it; it is piped from a source on the riverbed upstream.

What sightseeing spots are nearby?
The Shiobara hot spring area has extensive hiking trails, with many waterfalls and suspension bridges. You can enjoy the seasons: yashio azaleas and mountain cherry in spring, fresh greenery in early summer and autumn colours later in the year. Access towards Nikko is also relatively good.

What is the food like?
We serve a mountain and river kaiseki menu chosen seasonally, combining the best of Tochigi's seasonal produce with fine ingredients from around Japan. The private dining rooms Yama-no-Be and Kawa-no-Be, opened in 2019, have tables and chairs for a relaxed meal, with carefully chosen local sake and wine.

Is there parking, and is there a charge?
There is free parking for 25 vehicles. In winter please bring snow chains or come on studless tyres. The petrol station before the hot spring town also fits and removes chains free of charge.

How do I get there?
About 60 minutes by JR bus from Nasushiobara Station on the JR Tohoku Shinkansen, alighting at Shofuro Matsuya, then 1 minute on foot. From Kamimiyori-Shiobara-Onsenguchi Station on the Tobu Kinugawa Line, 25 minutes by bus to Shiobara Fukuwatari, then 5 minutes on foot. By car, about 20 minutes from Nishinasuno-Shiobara IC on the Tohoku Expressway via National Route 400.
