How do I get here from Osaka or Wakayama City?
Take the Ryujin Bus bound for Hongu Taisha from JR Kii-Tanabe Station and get off at "Kawayu Onsen" bus stop after about 90 minutes. By car, it is about 70 minutes from Kamitonda IC on the Hanwa Expressway. From Shingu Station, it is about 60 minutes by car.

Are all rooms facing the river?
All rooms face the Otao River, where you can enjoy views of thermal steam rising from the water and the natural landscape of Kumano.
Do you have rooms with private open-air baths?
Three Kumano Modern rooms—Kajika, Hotaru, and Sekirei—feature foot baths with hot spring water on a free-flowing basis and private open-air baths. These popular rooms opened in November 2008 and allow you to enjoy hot springs while taking in river views.

What are the spring qualities and characteristics of Kawayu Onsen?
This is a rare hot spring where the source wells up from the riverbed. The Otao River has such abundant hot spring water that if you dig into the riverbed, hot water springs forth. Since the source continuously wells up, the hot spring water is always flowing. It is known as one of the Kumano Hongu Hot Spring villages (along with Yunomine and Watase).
Do you have a private open-air bath?
We have a private open-air bath with a bed-style bath (neyuyu). It is especially popular with couples and families. Please contact the facility for details.
What is the winter attraction "Sennin Buro"?
From December to February each year, a giant open-air bath is set up on the riverbed of the Otao River. Fujiya, one of the oldest ryokans in Kawayugonsen hot spring, is the closest ryokan to Sennin Buro, and some rooms offer views of it.

What tourist spots are nearby?
Kumano Hongu Taisha is about 5 minutes by car. The Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also nearby with walking routes accessible from the ryokan. You can also enjoy river-boating experiences on the Kumano River in the area.

Do you offer shuttle service to the Kumano Kodo trail?
We offer free shuttle service to trailheads such as Hasshin-mon Oji and Fushioga Oji on the Kumano Kodo. After your hike, you can return to the ryokan, making it ideal for walking the Kumano Kodo.
