Tell me about the garden's history.
It was laid out in 1620 as the garden of a villa for Asano Nagaakira, lord of the Hiroshima domain, by his chief retainer Ueda Soko, also famous as a tea master. It is said to be a miniature rendering of the scenery of West Lake in Zhejiang, China. Destroyed by the atomic bomb, it was restored and is now a designated national Place of Scenic Beauty.
