How do I get there by public transport?
Take the Echigo Kotsu bus from JR Nagaoka Station (express or rapid service for Kashiwazaki Station, from stand 5 at the Otekuchi exit), alight at the Sekihara-Minami stop and walk about 20 minutes. A taxi from Nagaoka Station takes about 30 minutes and costs around 6,000 yen (as of July 2026).

There are sections such as The Story of Niigata Prefecture, Snow and Daily Life and The World of the Jomon People. Full-size dioramas recreate a snow-country gangi arcade street of the 1950s and Jomon life through the four seasons, so visitors of all ages can learn while enjoying themselves.

The permanent exhibition is 520 yen for general visitors, 200 yen for high school and university students, and free for junior high school age and under. Groups of 20 or more receive a discount. Special exhibitions are priced individually, and a special exhibition ticket also admits you to the permanent exhibition.
