What is jigoku-mushi?
It is a Horei speciality in which you steam food in a jigoku-gama, a steamer heated by hot spring steam, using ingredients you bring yourself or buy at the shop. Vegetables, eggs, chicken, sausages and more can all be steamed.

What are the opening hours and charges for the large open-air bath?

I heard the water is an unusual colour. What is it like?
The hot spring we are proud of is a milky white with a vivid touch of blue. It is 100 per cent natural water rising of its own accord, and the shade changes subtly with the season. Bathing while looking out at Mount Waita is much praised.
What private baths are there, and how much?
There are three types: hinoki baths (5 rooms) at 2,000 yen per hour, rock baths with an open-air section (6 rooms) at 1,500 yen per hour, and rock baths (6 rooms) at 1,000 yen per hour. They run on coin timers and the water is completely changed for each use, so you always have a fresh bath. Advance booking is not taken by telephone or email.
Until what time can I use the family bath?
The coin-timer family (private) baths are open 24 hours. As the water is changed each time, you can bathe in clean water even at night.
