Is there a shuttle bus?
A free shuttle bus runs once a day. From April to November it departs the East Exit of JR Aomori Station at 13:30 (Shin-Aomori Station at 13:45), and from December to March the West Exit of JR Hachinohe Station at 13:45, arriving at Yachi Onsen at 15:00. Seats are limited, so please book by telephone at least one week in advance.

Are there closures or restrictions in winter?
Day-use bathing is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the winter period from November to the end of April. Road restrictions also apply in winter for overnight guests, so please check access with the property (tel: 0176-74-1181) in advance.

What are the rooms like?
The rooms are mainly Japanese style (8 tatami in the east building, 10 tatami in the main building, and others). All the water used on the premises is spring water from Hakkoda, so you can also try this renowned water.

Can I use the baths on a day visit?
Day-use bathing is open 10:00-15:00 (last entry 14:30). Charges are 800 yen for adults (junior high school age and above), 450 yen for children, and free for pre-school children. During the winter period (November to the end of April) it is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

What is the difference between the lower bath and the upper bath?
The lower bath is a colourless, transparent spring at a mild 38C, well suited to a long soak. The upper bath is cloudy white at 42C and warms the body thoroughly. Being able to enjoy two baths of different quality is one of Yachi Onsen's attractions.

Yachi Onsen is counted as one of Japan's three secret hot springs, alongside Geto Onsen in Iwate Prefecture and Hoshi Onsen in Gunma Prefecture. Despite its remote mountain location it is known nationwide as a celebrated spring with more than 400 years of history.
What are the qualities and benefits of the hot spring?
It is a colourless, transparent simple sulphur spring (hydrogen sulphide type, hypotonic and weakly acidic). It is said to help with lower back pain and atopic conditions, and you can enjoy water welling up from the bottom of the bath itself, flowing directly from the source.

What food is served?
Yachi Onsen's speciality is char dishes. Fresh char farmed in Shingo Village and kept in tanks on site are served grilled with salt, as sashimi, deep-fried and simmered. Country dishes using seasonal Aomori mountain vegetables and mushrooms, and local sake, are also available.

About 80 minutes by JR bus bound for Lake Towada from JR Aomori Station; get off at the Yachi Onsen stop and walk about 5 minutes.
