設施概要 (2)
Is it famous as a secluded hot spring inn?
A single inn nestled quietly on the shores of Oosako Dam Lake deep in the mountains, popular with hot spring enthusiasts across the country. The distinctive bath with its rich golden turbid water and travertine formations enveloping the inn are notable features.
What is the history of the hot spring?
The spring has been open since the Heian period and thrived as a hot spring destination in the early Edo period. When Oosako Dam was completed in 1973, the area was submerged, but the source was relocated by excavating 150 meters down into the Hato Valley and reopened the same year. It has continued operating as "Yamahato-yu" since then.

Can I use the bath for a day visit?
Day-visit bathing is available. Hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (reception until 4:00 PM). Please contact the inn before your visit.
What type of hot spring water is it?
Sodium bicarbonate and chloride spring water (containing carbonated sodium bicarbonate) rich in iron and calcium. It is a rare carbonated spring found throughout Japan. The water is colorless and transparent but changes to a pale yellowish-brown color after several hours. The bicarbonate content softens old dead skin and it is called "beauty water."
What types of baths are there?
An indoor bath made entirely of cedar logs and a panoramic outdoor bath made from a giant zelkova tree. The outdoor bath offers stunning views of the dam lake and surrounding mountains. The hot spring is self-sourced, naturally flowing at 500 liters per minute.
Why does the water color change?
The hot spring source is colorless and transparent, but when exposed to air, the iron it contains oxidizes and turns a pale yellowish-brown color after several hours. Calcium-based mineral deposits form in the bath, creating a heavy, pottery-like appearance.
