From the inn, the Tsunoshima Bridge is about 40 minutes by car, and central Shimonoseki (Karato Market and the Kanmon Straits) about 40 minutes. It makes a good base for the main sights of western Yamaguchi.

Kawatana Onsen is a historic hot spring dating from the Muromachi period, distinctive for its mellow water. It is used at 100 per cent straight from the source, a fine water that eases both body and mind.
What is the history of Kawatana Onsen?
Kawatana Onsen has more than 800 years of history and was used as a cure resort by the Mori lords. It is also known as the place where the haiku poet Taneda Santoka stayed for 100 days writing verse. The legend of the blue dragon survives here, and the spring has been loved by many notable figures.

Our speciality is dishes using fresh fugu sent directly from Karato Market in Shimonoseki. In winter the full fugu course is especially popular. Please check the plans when booking for fugu dishes.

Kawara soba, which originated at Kawatana Onsen, is famous. It is a signature dish of Yamaguchi Prefecture and can be eaten in the hot spring town.
