Check-in is 15:00 (latest 18:00) and check-out is 10:00.

Are you open in winter?
We have been open all year round since 2001. In winter (December to March), however, the road is closed to general traffic because of snow, so you must use the free shuttle bus (booking required).

Yes, you can stay with children. As there is no electric lighting or air conditioning, however, please contact the inn in advance on 0172-54-8588 if you are travelling with young children.

As well as the main building there are three detached buildings set along the stream. Each has rooms with plenty of character, for a quieter and more private stay.

What is the Inn of Lamps?
It is an inn with no mobile phone signal, no electric lighting, no television and no air conditioning, where you spend the night by lamplight alone. A two-storey wooden inn standing alone beside the stream in the remote Aoni valley, it has been here since the spring was first tapped in 1929. Under the motto luxury by another name, inconvenience, it is popular with guests seeking a digital detox.

How many baths are there?
There are four baths in all, including separate indoor and open-air baths for men and women. Moving between baths of different character is part of the appeal. The water is a simple spring.

Where are meals served, and what is on the menu?
Both breakfast and dinner are served in the large hall. The food is unaffected country cooking, simple dishes made with mountain produce. Dining in the irori hearth room also has its own atmosphere.

There is free parking for 50 vehicles. In winter (December to March), however, the road is closed to general traffic, so please park at the Niji-no-Ko roadside station and use the free shuttle bus.
