What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is 15:00 and check-out is 10:30. Times may differ by plan, so please check the details of the plan you have booked.

What room types are there?
There are 33 rooms, mostly sukiya-style Japanese rooms of 10 to 12 tatami mats. We can offer larger rooms depending on the size of your party. Please ask when booking.

When was the inn founded?
It was founded in 1948 and marked its 75th anniversary in 2023. It is a long-established inn that places great weight on old traditions and is much loved by its guests.

What does it mean that the inn is connected with Yokoyama Taikan?
The name Taikanso was given to us by Yokoyama Taikan, the great master of Japanese painting. The view from the inn is magnificent enough to be called taikan, a grand view, and the extensive garden and sukiya-style buildings reflect Taikan's sense of beauty.

What is distinctive about the hot spring?
We use Atami Onsen water from two sources of our own. There is a range of bathing facilities: the large bathing hall Sanno no Yu, the open-air bath Taki no Yu, a private open-air bath and a foot bath.

What baths and facilities are there?
As well as three large bathing halls there is a private open-air bath, a heated stone floor and a foot bath. The private open-air bath is used by booking. The view over the sea and sky is another attraction.

What is the garden like?
The extensive garden changes its character with the seasons, showing the beauty of the Japanese year. From our position on high ground, the view over the garden to Sagami Bay is exceptional.

Is there a pick-up service from the station?
There is a free shuttle bus from JR Atami Station. On the day of check-in it runs every 30 minutes from 13:45 to 16:45, with no booking needed (please wait near Shuttle Bus A, to the right as you leave the ticket gates). There is also a service after check-out.

What is the food like?
We serve Kyoto-style kaiseki, rooted in Kyoto cuisine and adapted to suit guests from the Kanto region. Dishes built on seasonal ingredients are one of the things we are most proud of.

Is there parking?
There is a car park. Atami has many steep, narrow roads, however, so please take care with the route your satellite navigation gives you. If you are unsure, contact us and we will send you a map of the area.

How do I get there?
About 3-5 minutes by taxi from Atami Station on the JR Tokaido Line (there is a steep hill). About 10 minutes' walk (steep for the latter part). A free shuttle bus runs on the day of check-in, every 30 minutes from 13:45 to 16:45, no booking needed.
