Question 4

Tell me about the history.

Accepted Answer

Empress Koken (later Empress Shotoku) is said to have moved to Narada about 1,300 years ago, and seven strange happenings connected with the hot spring gave the Bath of Seven Wonders its name. It is a historic spring recognised as hot spring heritage.

Question 5

Why is it famous as a hidden hot spring in Yamanashi?

Accepted Answer

Its remote setting deep in the Southern Alps, its history of more than 1,300 years, its pure water used at 100 per cent from the source, and the mystery of water that changes colour together make it a favourite among hot spring enthusiasts.

Question 6

What is the Bath of Seven Wonders?

Accepted Answer

It is a silky spring that seems to combine the water of two of Narada's seven wonders, the Salt Pond and the Washing Pond. The smell of sulphur grows stronger and weaker, and the colour of the water sometimes changes. It is an alkaline sulphur spring used at 100 per cent from the source, and came third in the skin-moisturising category of the 2016 national hot spring vote.

Question 7

I heard the colour of the water changes. Is that true?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the weather and conditions, the water turns clear, green or milky white, which is part of its mystery. It feels thick and smooth, and is praised for its effect on the skin, with guests saying it is like bathing in lotion.

Question 8

Some reviews say health problems improved. Is that so?

Accepted Answer

Guests sometimes tell us that an undiagnosed illness improved, or that someone unable to walk was able to walk again. This is not medical treatment, however, so please consult your doctor about your own condition before visiting.
